Hello, my name is Amy! I am 2 year old female Rottweiler mix. I have been here at the Carson shelter since February 3. Susan the dog lady found me in building 1 tonight and then moved me to C247, next to Lucky.

I get anxious when I am neglected but when Susan took me out, I was very calm even walking around the cages. I even touched noses with a few other dogs.

Susan would love to take a dog like me and run me for several miles. I sure could use the exercise. I would love to have a home where I could do that. Won't you take me home?

Lucky - A3218065

Hi! My name is Lucky. I am 4 year old female shepherd mix, according to my kennel card. Maybe there is a little collie thrown in. Susan the dog lady found me in building 1 and moved me over into C248 tonight.

Like Tracy, I enjoyed checking out the laundry room too, and Susan had a hard time getting a good photo of me!

Susan walked me around a little. One of the shelter workers asked my name and then said, "Well maybe she'll get lucky!"

I am in building 2, in the same area as Roxy, Amy, Peanut Butter, and Tracy. Please come down and say hello to us!

My name is Tracy. My kennel card says female "shepherd mix" but Susan the dog lady thinks I am part hound, maybe part Rhodesian Ridgeback. Right now I live in cage C219.

I am very submissive. I will roll on my back for you and I love it when you give me a good belly rub!

I was sooo excited when Susan came to get me out of my cage tonight! I couldn't stop wiggling around and sniffing everything in sight! Susan had one heck of a time trying to take a decent photo of me. In that first photo, Susan just gave me a treat.

I got to thoroughly sniff out the laundry room while Susan was trying to take a picture of me. At one point she gave up and said, "Let's just go for a walk!" But she got some better pictures of me back at my cage.

People here say I am a nice girl. Won't you come on down to the Carson shelter and say hello to me?

Samson - A3628693

Hi! My name is Samson. Chuck the shelter aid told Susan the dog lady that I was owner surrendered, and turned in with two other dogs. I am a 3 year old male shepherd mix, and right now I am in C247.

Somebody wrote on my kennel card that I am not leash trained. So Susan the dog lady, seeing that, thought I was the perfect dog to get to know, and I think she's right!

You see, I am a little scared to be here, and this place overwhelms me a little. When Susan tried taking me out on the leash, I sort of freaked out. I would cower and get down a lot.

Susan immediately took me out back and tied the leash around her waist, so she could click and treat me for staying close to her. We worked on that for a while, and I got to eat some yummy treats! We did manage to walk around a little. I can't wait until Susan comes back Monday so we can work on this again!

Shamus - A3634273

My name is Shamus. I just came in on February 22 (yesterday), so I am not quite available for adoption yet, but if my owner does not claim me, I should be available in five business days. I am a one year old male border collie mix.

Volunteer Niki bathed me right after Susan bathed Roxy.

Susan came by later to see me and get more pictures of me.

Susan and Niki say that I am a very sweet dog with a very calm disposition. There are lots of great dogs here at the Carson shelter. Did you know the shelter is open on Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM? Please come on down and visit us!

Roxy gets a bath - A3613522

Hi! It's Roxy again. Susan the dog lady misspelled my name the first time, but she's got it right now. I've been here since December 19, and right now I'm in C244. I came in as a stray, and then I think the shelter managed to contact my owner, and I was being held for my owner, but I guess my owner changed his mind. So I am definitely available for adoption, and I'd love to go home with somebody! I was not 1 year old as first marked on my kennel card - I am about 5 years old.

The last time Susan was here she furminated me but noticed how dirty my coat felt, so she decided she was going to make a special trip down here to give me a bath! Before she started the bath, she thought she better walk me around a bit to get me a little relaxed. In this first picture, I was waiting while she was actually preparing some food to give me during the bath. A tiny avocado to help make my coat glossier, some Natural Balance lamb and rice formula, and a little kibble. Yum!

Susan took the dish and then took me into the laundry/grooming room and started off by furminating me again. It's amazing how much hair came out!

Then she lifted me into the tub and got me soaked down. I must have been really dirty because it was very hard getting the shampoo worked up into a lather.

Between the first and second shampooings Susan fed me the dish of food. I gobbled it up.

Volunteer Niki came by and she started toweling off my head while Susan got the cream rinse.

Now Niki is drying me off after the final creme rinse, while Susan is putting down a towel for me to lie on.

Susan tethered me to a grooming table and let me lie on some blankets while Niki started grooming Shamus. Here I am watching Shamus get a bath!

Susan used a blow dryer on me a little to make sure I was dried off. Then she used some ear wipes to try cleaning out my ears. I was quiet lying down on the laundry room floor and Susan kept praising me and giving me her salmon, liver, chicken and vegetable treats! Yum!

Susan says I am an unbelievably nice dog, with a great temperament! I greeted Shamus the border collie and I can be nice to other dogs. And kids! So please, won't you come down here and visit me, and maybe take me home?

Pedigree Commercial - In Memory of Rex

I was just told that that last dog was not Rex, but Mandy, a dog I posted about in September 2006. Mandy and Rex looked so much alike they could have been siblings, though I don't think they were brought in together. The facts are true about Rex, however.

This pedigree commercial was filmed here at the Carson shelter. Rex is the last dog in this commercial, cocking his head.

Sadly, Rex remained unadopted and over time became mentally unhinged and started aggressing at some of the staff and volunteers who had been taking care of him. The shelter reluctantly ended up having to put him down.

It's very unfortunate, but the reality is that there are too many of us who need homes and not enough people willing or able to adopt us. It certainly doesn't help that condominium homeowner associations put in place strict rules about adopting larger dogs.

Maggie Mae - A3621337

Yes, my name is Maggie Mae, just like the Rod Stewart song! Of course I am female, though Susan the dog lady doesn't remember exactly how old I am. I am some sort of herding collie or shepherd mix. Right now I am in C243.

Being in this shelter scares me. Tonight I thought I hit the jackpot when volunteer Evelyn asked Susan to walk me. It was a little difficult getting out of the cage because I was so anxious, but Susan took me in the back, put me on a waist leash, and clicked and treated me for letting the leash be loose and coming to her. I kept getting chicken, vegetable and salmon treats!

That waist leash walking exercise is actually quite relaxing. After we do that for a while, Susan then puts the leash back on normally, and we walk around the shelter. Because I was relaxed from the waist leash exercise, it helped in the walk around the grounds.

I really hate it here and would love to have a home! Won't you come down here to the Carson shelter and consider adopting one of us?

Peanut Butter - A3626055

My name is Peanut Butter. I am Owner Return and I was put in building 1. I have been there since January 29. Susan the dog lady moved me to C218 tonight. I am a female shepherd mix, maybe a year old.

Susan put me on the waist leash tonight and walked me around a little in the back, clicking and treating me when I relaxed the leash and came back to her. Those chicken, vegetable and salmon treats were good! I hope we get to do that again next week!

Roxie - A3613522

Susan the dog lady wanted to call me Gretchen, but somebody else at the shelter named me Roxie. She found me tonight in building 1, with a note that I should be moved to building 2 ASAP because I've been here at the Carson shelter since December 19! So she moved a small dog to "room" with another small dog and made a space for me. Right now I'm in C230. I am about a year old and I am a German Shepherd.

I was a stray when I was found. Susan thinks I am a sweetheart. I didn't have too much trouble walking on the leash. In the first photo above, I'm licking my lips after Susan gave me a liver treat! And in this second photo, I'm just sitting here waiting for her to take me back out of the laundry room.

Susan thinks that right now we have a pretty good "crop" of adoptable dogs at the shelter. Won't you come on down and visit us?

Hi! My name is Barney. I am a 10 month old male Aussie mix. I've been here at the Carson shelter since December 27, and right now I live in C241.

Susan the dog lady thinks I am the coolest looking dog with my partial merle coat and blue eyes. It's kind of hard to see my eyes in these photos though (the red eye effect).

I was having trouble walking with the training collar and leash tonight. So tonight Susan tried a little exercise with me. She put a Martingale collar on me and tied the leash around her waist. Then we sort of walked around in the back a little. If I pulled on the leash, Susan stopped, then started walking the other way. We did that for a few minutes, but she thinks maybe it helped calm me down a little. Then she took off the leash, put back on the training collar, and off we went to do a walk around the grounds.

Nikki - A3614435

Hi! My name is Nikki. I am a 4 month old female pit bull mix pup. I was brought in with my brother. I am owner surrendered and I've been here since before Christmas. Oh dear, Susan forgot to get my cage number. It's C246 or very close to it.

Tonight Susan the dog lady greeted me for the first time. I am a little shy, but it's a cautious type of shy, not a fearful shy, so I went and hid in the other side of the kennel. I like to play, so I gave some play bows to Susan, and she gave me some play bows back!

Susan took the first photo of me while I was still hiding in the other side of the kennel. She sat down on the floor of the front side and kept coaxing me to her side with her liver and chicken and vegetable treats. Oooh, they were yummy! I kept eating them up!

Susan kept coaxing me with treats. Pretty soon I was comfortable on her side of the kennel, and I even let Susan pet me a little. This second photo is of me sitting in Susan's side of the kennel.

Susan thinks I have the "perfect" pet personality - a slightly cautious shyness, but a love of play. Won't you come down to the shelter and say hello to me?

My name is Sarge. I am a male shepherd/rottweiler mix. Right now I live in cage C241.

Susan the dog lady was trying to have me do a SIT, but I just wanted to lie down. Since we just met, Susan didn't want to insist that I SIT, so she decided to take some photos of me while I was down on the ground.

Susan thinks I have very gentle brown eyes and that I am quite handsome.

Susan says I have a busy nose. When we walk, I like having my nose to the ground. Other than that, I walk around the shelter with her pretty well! Won't you come down and say hello to me?

My name is Callie. I am a shepherd mix and I'm about 10 months old. Right now I live in Cage C246.

I've been at the shelter since December 16, and I would really love to have a home!

Susan the dog lady noticed I had a little trouble walking on a leash, but I was able to sit nicely for a few photos! Susan says we'll work on the walking some more!

Hi! My name is Lena. I am a shepherd mix. Susan the dog lady forgot to write down all the information on me, so she can't remember how old I am - but I'm not very old! I live in Cage 245 right now. My kennel card says I am female but for some reason I am wearing a blue tag!

It gets really dark in the back of the shelter during the winter evenings, so it is difficult for Susan to take pictures of us. But she managed to get these shots of me tonight. Considering the poor lighting, they aren't bad at all!

Susan and I met for the first time tonight, and she thought I was pretty good on the walk. Won't you come down to the shelter too and get to know me?

Barney - A3610413

Hi! My name is Barney, and right now I am living in cage C221. Susan the dog lady thinks I might be some kind of pointer/doberman mix.

When Susan first tried getting to know me on Wednesday and tried walking me, I didn't like the training collar at all! I kept bucking like a bronco and kept trying to chew the leash. Susan wasn't sure if it was really hurting me or I was just being a brat, so she put a martingale collar on me just in case. I didn't complain with the martingale, but Susan noticed I was pulling on it. She also noticed I barely felt any correction when I growled at the ducks in the back. So Susan thought about it and decided that next time she would try the training collar on me again.

On Friday the 29th, Susan walked me with the training collar again. I tried chewing the leash but I was just getting a mouthful of metal and she kept yanking it away. I tried jumping a few times too but she kept stepping away and wouldn't do anything. However, if I quietly sat, she'd step in and give me a rub and maybe a chicken treat! So, I think I'm learning that jumping and bucking get me nothing, walking and sitting get me chest rubs and pats and chicken treats! Susan actually walked me around the shelter a few times and said I was much better today!

"Dollbaby"

Nobody knows my name, but since I am winning popularity contests here at the Carson shelter, Chuck, a shelter employee calls me Dollbaby. Susan says I am Chuck's girlfriend. They think I am a sharpei mix with maybe some Jindo. I just love everybody here.

Susan doesn't know my impound number at the moment, but right now I am being held in a court case. I was brought in with a boxer and a German shepherd because of biting. The shelter employees think it was the German shepherd who did the biting and the boxer and I are just getting a bad rap. It's unfair, but these things happen all the time - a dog getting blamed for something he or she didn't do.

Susan calls me King. I am 2 year old male German Shepherd, brown and black. I was impounded on December 11, and I live in cage C337. On Monday the 18th, Susan was showing me to a nice man. She noticed I was scared, and that I cringed every time she moved her hands quickly near my head. When she put me back, I tried to bite her, but fortunately she moved her hand away in time. The man changed his mind about adopting me though.

Today Susan came back to see me. She came with plenty of delicious chicken and liver treats. Whenever I let her touch me and pet me on the head and neck she would click and then feed me the treats. We played that game for a while. The treats were delicious!

Then she dangled the training collar around my neck for a while, and as long as I didn't act scared, she'd click and feed me more treats. Finally, I just let her put it on me. By this time I was sticking my head in the crook of her arm, hoping she'd rub my ears.

Susan took great care to give me a great neck rub and let me see her hands whenever she put on, removed, or adjusted the training collar. She took me outside for a walk and it was great to get a chance to relieve myself! We had a good time. I hope she visits again soon, and brings more of those treats! I like that game!

Creampuff - A3608485

Susan the dog lady calls me Creampuff because my coat is such a beautiful creamy color. I am a 1 year old male pit bull, still a puppy! I live in cage C314.

When Susan entered the cage I completely lost control because I was so wild with joy! I kept jumping and trying to get her attention, but she stood there like a pillar in one corner, with her face to the corner, arms tucked in. She wouldn't look at me even though I was jumping all over the place!

Susan finally managed to get a chain on me and the leash attached, but I was still going crazy. In between my jumps I was trying to wash her hands with my tongue. So all Susan could do was stand on the leash to keep me from jumping so hard.

Because I couldn't settle down, Susan decided not to try walking me. But she plans on coming back into my cage regularly to see if I can be conditioned to settle down quicker! I hope she comes back!
